Who is Dr. Ted?

When Dr. Ted Vickey isn't running his company—FitWell, Inc.—or teaching master-level classes in Kinesiology at Point Loma University where he is a professor, you will find him on the golf course, tinkering with fitness and health gadgets, or enjoying a long walk on a Southern California beach.

Ted's current company, FitWell, Inc., focuses on working with companies (ranging from startups to established businesses) within the health, fitness, and wellness space, creating strategies for the effective use of technology to improve the lives of their customers. 

In addition to teaching master-level classes at Point Loma University as a Professor of Kinesiology, Ted has also led the development of the 100% online Master of Integrative Wellness program and curriculum, where students from around the globe get the opportunity to expand their knowledge of wellness, behavior change, entrepreneurship, and technology. 

His current educational research interests center around fitness management, fitness center design, professional ethics, wellness, entrepreneurship, and disruptive health technologies.

In addition to earning a Ph.D. from the National University of Ireland Galway, focusing on disruptive health technologies, social networks, mobile fitness apps, and knowledge discovery in data, Ted's experience spans these positions: 

Executive Director of the White House Athletic Center (fitness center serving the fitness/health/wellness needs of the Staff of the Executive Office of the President of the United States under the Clinton & Bush administrations).

Senior Advisor for Disruptive Health Technologies at the Canyon Ranch Institute under the direction of former United States Surgeon General Richard Carmona.

Consultant for organizations such as: The White House, Department of Commerce, Securities and Exchange Commission, Fruit of the Loom, TSA, Sylvania, and Allied Irish Bank

Vice President of Health and Fitness at Comprehensive Health Services, leading the fitness management and wellness screenings division.

Expert witness in Fitness Technology for Meta vs. FTC 2022 federal case.  Research, deposed and testified.

Emeritus member of the Board of Directors & Senior Advisor for Fitness Technology for the American Council on Exercise.

Professor in Kinesiology with appointments at Point Loma Nazarene, Tulane, University of San Francisco and the University of Galway.  Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses including but not limited to: Wellness Entrepreneurship, Disruptive Health Technologies, Mass Media and Health, Health Informatics, Leadership, Facility Design and Ethics.

Over a decade working at the British Open in various capacities for ESPN, ABC, NBC, & Sky Sports (since 2009), for the R&A for player security, Chair of the Marshalls for the 2021 US Open in San Diego, and Media Center Chair for the PGA Farmer’s Insurance Open golf tournament in San Diego since 2015.
